Redesigning a nebuliser to create a circular solution
00

problem
Nebulisers are used mostly by children and elderly people, or patients with health concerns who require deeper delivery of medicines in the form of a fine mist. Users purchase nebulisers, use for a short period and then it ends up sitting in a box in storage, or in the other extreme case, use them extensively and the amounts of used medicine bottles pile up.
solution
We recognised oportunities in postponing obsolescence by changing the technology, usability and user experience. We replaced the air compressor, most susceptible to damage, with a manual compression mechanism and by designing the device for repair and maintenance.
The Myst system is a different take on handheld nebulisers. It can be considered to be in the space between inhalers and nebulisers.

It depends on a compression spring for the required pressurisation to mist the liquid medication. With it's long lasting, consistent droplets sprayed from a solution, medication from Myst can reach the deepest ends of the lungs.

The main reason we designed Myst was that apart from all the technological differences, using a nebuliser has a deep emotional impact on the patient. it is bulky, needs a power outlet, and the compressors is noisy. These factors make nebulisers undesirable as it makes the patient feel helpless, in addition to the unwanted sympathetic attentions from people around them.
In contrast, Myst is small, quiet, concealable, portable and does not require to operate. This removes nearly all the factors that made the user uncomfortable with using a nebuliser, reducing the barrier to use.
Myst also has a service system that works in the background, helping track patient data, medications, deliveries and collections, reducing the spaces where waste could be generated in the process.
The purpose of the Myst service is to deliver medicine for the period when they need it. This enables a system that refills and reuses the medicine bottles and ensures that the device returns to the manufacturer when it turns obsolete.
The system has two sides to it, the user side and the doctor side. The doctor can induct a user into the system by prescribing the required medication and dosage into the system and generate the key for the user to login. This enables proper supervision over the medication. On the user side, they can keep track of their medications, shipping details and prescriptions.
